Ontology, the high-performance public blockchain specializing in decentralized identity and data has launched the second iteration of its Harbinger Programme to further expand and reward its community across the world. With a diverse ecosystem of over 135,000 members spanning 29 languages, the Ontology community has played an integral role in the continued development of the company.

Korea IT Times had an interview with Humpty Calderon, Head of Community at Ontology on the benefits of the Harbinger Program.

Can you tell us more about the Ontology Harbinger Program?

The Ontology Harbinger Program elevates exceptional leaders helping Ontology grow its community and ecosystem. Harbingers are instrumental in connecting Ontology, its community, and ecosystem partners. They are purveyors of knowledge and welcome the opportunity to teach someone how to use Ontology and its various products. They help educate the community on how to securely hold and stake assets using ONTO Wallet, how to lend and borrow multichain assets on Wing Finance, and how to create and manage their decentralized identity and self-sovereign reputation with ONT ID and OScore.

How did you come up with the idea to start the Harbinger Program?

Ontology is host to numerous active community members throughout its many product channels. The Harbinger Program seeks to recognize and provide a platform to those who continually support the community, education initiatives, and promotional efforts. So really, you can say that the program was born from the community itself - their participation demanded it.

What are the benefits of getting involved in the Harbinger Program?

Ontology developed the Harbinger Program with consistency in mind. Beyond recognizing individuals for exceptional contributions, its reward structure includes regular and long-term contributions. The more active someone is, the higher the recognition they receive. Long-term Ontology Harbingers receive rewards and benefits for getting involved. We would encourage any  Ontology community member to get involved to further expand and grow the community and ecosystem around the world.

How important is the role of the crypto community in a project’s success?

I cannot overstate how crucial it is for a project to have an active community. Starting with the fact that developers will usually seek to build wherever there is a community of people to use their products. If there isn't one, they will likely move on. Communities also play a critical role in improving products. They happily share feedback to see their favorite products advance and gain wider adoption. Active communities are also the front line of engagement for new members. Having thoughtful and well-informed people leading that engagement is valuable to education and onboarding initiatives. Lastly, happy communities share their joy with the public on social media and beyond. In a small, niche landscape like crypto, that type of support is indispensable and is really appreciated by companies. The ability to reach new audiences outside of the project's owned media followers is the holy grail for marketing. No amount of marketing spend can replace that type of organic reach.

What makes a successful crypto community?

In my opinion, a successful community can be described as a group of people with a common interest in solving a challenge together. This is why the Harbinger Program is a key initiative for Ontology. Through this program, we can enable a cooperative environment for both the project and its community to succeed. We want our community to continue to collaborate and support each other. The Ontology Harbinger Program brings us a step closer to achieving that.
