What's Next for Education? 3D?
With technology know-it-all companies like LG and Samsung, it is no surprise that Korea and the world is starting to see a glimpse of change in the Home Entertainment system. Particularly, the hottest development is in the 3D devices such as TV, Blu-ray, and cameras. Just as the development of the internet changed education, this recent development will likely change education in a variety of ways.
The internet gave birth to what is known as 'distance-learning'. TVs have been developed to access the internet just as a computer would in the past. Now that 3D TVs and amateur, inexpensive video cameras are coming to the market, does this mean that schools will start to offer class material or sessions in 3D? Although the answer is unknown, I predict that this development will allow subjects such as health and other sciences to join the other classes offered on the internet.
Imagine, students exploring 3D models of the human body from their living rooms. Students are manipulating the image to better explore the parts of the body to improve the understanding of the natural biological processes as well as being able to see firsthand what happens to the body when it become inflicted with an ailment or disease. Students would not be limited to studying only the healthy body but also in the aiding the unhealthy. This would be a reasonable replacement for the typical lab studies held in the classroom. In addition, it would also broaden students' studies; as a result, it could advance healthcare.
The benefits of 3D technologies are not limited to just outside the classroom. 3D projectors could aid a professor in his teaching. The professor could control what students see and answer any questions that the students have about the material. It would bring to life the material that students study from a book. It even gives professors the option to bring in any possible studies that they are conducting to show students that they can also think critically and aid in the research. It links students and professors together that can ultimately benefit this area of study as well as others.
Undeniably, bringing 3D technologies into the graphic design and filming classrooms could help students advance quickly as they are able to work with them firsthand. It will give students the ability to develop advanced skills prior to entering the job market where there would be the challenges of learning new technologies.
Undoubtedly, excessive amounts of research findings are recorded throughout the entire research process. It could answer the dream of researchers, professors and students, who would love to see their findings in some kind of 3D model whether it is the body or some other object. It could aid in seeing the different effects or changes to the researchers' subject as they manipulate what they do to their subject. It also helps the researchers present their findings to others and easily explain what they did to make the discovery.Although researchers typically do not have skills in 3D production, it could mean that others, such as graphic designers, could aid in research as well as causing people in the researching field to develop these skills and expand their abilities.
