KOSPI and KOSDAQ Top-20 Stocks Gain Percentage in Total Market Cap

SEOUL, KOREA- The percentage of top-20 stocks in the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets has increased this year to date. According to the Korea Exchange on November 11, the top-20 KOSPI stocks accounted for 50.60 percent in total as of November 7, up 0.37 percentage point from the end of last year.The ratio has climbed up incrementally from 47.91 percent in 2010 to 47.93 percent in 2011 and to 50.23 percent last year.
 
In the KOSDAQ market, meanwhile, the same figure was 23.74 percent, up 1.52 percentage points from the end of 2012. The ratio has risen steadily too from 23.53 percent in 2010 to 23.27 percent in 2011, but dipped slightly to 22.22 percent in 2012.
 
The top-20 stocks in KOSPI include companies like Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor. In KOSDAQ, Celltrion, Seoul Semiconductor, and CJ O Shopping are taking top ranks. The stocks that saw highest jump in their market cap ranking were Naver and Ssangyong Engineering & Construction in KOSPI and KOSDAQ, respectively. Naver leaped to the position of 11th largest company in market value from last year's 21st. Ssangyong's ranking moved to 5th from 273rd at the end of last year.
