On April 14 the Ministry of Environment has selected five environmental companies as the recipients to the 2014 Green Export 100 project.

According to a spokesman at the Korea Environmental Industry Association (KEIA), five companies slated to receive financial support from the government for export of environmental goods are Yucheon Enviro, Forcebel, DH-M, ARK, and IREA Chemical Enterprise.

The Green Export 100 refers to a government project that provides environmental companies equipped with excellent technologies financial support for some necessary expenses for their expansion into overseas markets, he explained.

The ministry plans to expand the total number of Green Export 100 project beneficiaries to a hundred by 2018.

Noting that those selected may each receive some 200 million in government subsidies, the spokesman said that they may use the funds to bolster their ability to advance into overseas markets, including marketing costs.

A total of twenty five environmental companies applied for the project, an average competition ratio of five-to-one, and the five chosen companies were singled out in recognition of their excellent technologies and performance.

Yucheon Enviro is an environmental company that specializes in filtering systems. It boasts a fiber disc-filter, which occupies a high market share in the nation's large disposal market, inexpensive investment cost and setup on a narrow site.

China used the company's fiber disc-filter to construct the Jiyuan Sewage Treatment Plant, and Daegu City also used the product for the west sewage treatment facility.

Fiber Disc-filter is gravity filtration with fiber media, possible for depth filtration, advanced treatment, and CSO applications. The removal of BOD, COD, SS and T-P can be possible by filtration with flocculation and chemical treatment.

Yucheon Enviro's accumulated technologies and experience have been acknowledged by obtaining the ISO9001, several patents and certificates.

Forcebel is involved in waste treatment. The company reuses landfill by automatically classifying comingled household waste.

It successfully advanced onto a Japanese project to dispose waste that resulted from the tsunami, gaining global recognition.

Forcebel provides a solution for waste treatment and makes every effort toward a clean earth environment to the next generation so as to be a global company being loved by mankind, a spokesman said.

Among popular items of the company are the mechanical biological treatment (MBT) system and the sustainable landfills reclaiming (SLR) system.

The MBT system refers to a system that can sort and separate municipal solid waste to reclaim energy and resources, minimizing landfill and incineration.

SLR boasts of a high technology enabling the recycling use of landfills by converting reusable materials, including earth, sand, and metals, into energy.

In particular, the MBT system has a high global competitiveness compared with its European counterparts, he said.

The MBT system was used by the city of Mokpo to build a facility to dispose household waste and the SLR system was utilized for the construction of a sanitation landfill to the east of Bukjeju province.

DH-M is a manufacturer of ring blowers for water treatment facilities and high pressure piston pumps. The company was selected for its advanced methane gas generation plant manufacturing technology.

Ring blower, an air blower with low noise developed by the company for the first time in Korea, is being used for aeration by the domestic environmental industry.

DH-M's high pressure piston pump is an environment-friendly product, which can clean without using chemical detergents, save water, and working hours, a company spokesman said.

Its bio gas plant also boasts of advanced technology the company attained as a result of its participation in the Ministry of Environment's global top environmental technology development project in 2011.

The company used up-to-date technology for the construction of a bio gas plant in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province and a bio energy fusion system in Gimjae, Jeollabuk Province, the spokesman said.

DH-M develops and manufactures power supplies as a core part of the electronics industry, and in particular specializes in SMPS, he said, adding that the company will make efforts to be a reliable and sound company by establishing environmental-friendly systems as well as continually acquiring new technologies and developing new products to the satisfaction of customer needs.

ARK specializes in manufacture waste water treatment equipment. Its major product is a sludge concentration apparatus and a dewaterer.

The company was singled out as the recipient of the project in recognition of its ability to solve the shortage of land for sewage treatment plants in large cities by reducing sludge and offensive odors.

ARK's advanced technology, which obtained ISO 9001 and some ten patents, was applied to over three hundred sewage treatment plants across the country.

Since its establishment in 2000, ARK has specialized in sewage and wastewater treatment, and developed sludge treatment facilities for a clean water environment.

The company is making efforts to develop innovative sludge treatment equipment such as a disk-type thickener and a screw-type dewatering machine throughout the company’s research centers via academic-industrial cooperation.

IREA Chemical Enterprise is a manufacturer of environment-friendly products such as non-toxic rust resisting paint, water soluble flooring material, and natural coating.

The ministry selected IREA as the recipient of the Green Export 100 project as the company has succeeded to produce products necessary for the improvement of air quality.

Since its establishment in 1999, IREA has focused on basic environment-friendly chemical products, including epoxy resin, polyether polyol, and polyamide, among others.

For effective support of the selected enterprises, the ministry has entrusted the task of managing the project to KEIA.
