SEOUL, KOREA - The sales of 5-inch-level smartphones will likely to grow 84 percent this year compared to last year. American market research firm Strategy Analytics released on April 22 survey results on the estimates of smartphone sales by screen size and hardware specs.
The estimates break down smartphones into four categories as follows: less than 4-inch standard smartphones, 4-4.99-inch super phones, 5-5.99-inch standard phablets, and 6-6.99-inch super phablets.
Among them, the 4-inch super phones were last year’s best-seller with their sales estimated at 419.5 million units, followed by standard smartphones with 418 million units, and standard phablets and super phablets with 7.4 million units.
In terms of estimated growth rate for this year, however, the 5-inch-level standard phablets are expected to achieve the highest growth of 84 percent, followed by super phablets with 74 percent, and super phones with 28 percent.
The sales of standard smartphones are expected to register a negative year-to-year growth of 8 percent this year.
