SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics is set to unveil a server-based open-type smart home platform.Hong Won-Pyo, president of Media Solution Center at Samsung Electronics, said in a press conference held on April 18 at the Samsung Innovation Museum, “We will soon open the SHP (Smart Home Protocol) that is created based on the assumption of an open-type ecosystem.”
At present, “Samsung Smart Home” is operated only with smartphones with Android 4.0 operating system or higher.Samsung Electronics plans to make it available with Tizen OS-based Samsung Gear 2 and Gear Fit within this month.
Hong said, “If an integrated platform is established, a variety of partners, including home electronics manufacturers, IT solution firms, and parts and components makers, can participate in the Samsung Smart Home business. Within the next two-three years, a new era will come when every householdcan enjoy the benefits of Smart Home just like everyone using smartphones and smart TVs today.”
