Ssangyong Motor announced on June 11 that it will develop a new program based on Google’s Android Auto system and mount it into its new cars.
At Google’s annual developer conference held in San Francisco on May 28, Ssangyong Motor, together with its largest shareholder Mahindra, joined the Open Automotive Alliance.
Google revealed its strong intention to help Ssangyong Motor and Mahindra in developing new cars which are applied with the Android Auto system.
The OAA is a global connected car development alliance which was formed by a group of IT and automobile companies, aimed at developing smart cars through combination between Android operating system and automobiles.
At present, the OAA membership includes a string of global companies, including GM, Volvo, Volkswagen, Panasonic and Nvidia. A Ssangyong Motor official said, “Our future customers would be able to enjoy a variety of Android app services, including Google Search and Google Map.”
