With the launch of a new budget smartphone, the Sky IM-100, Pantech is making a comeback after a 19-month hiatus.
Pantech, once the country's No. 2 handset maker, held a press conference on June 22 at the Pantech R&D Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul and took the wraps off the SKY IM-100. The SKY IM-100 will go on sale next week via SK Telecom and KT.
Pantech also unveiled the Stone, a multifunctional charger-cum-wireless speaker. Once paired, the Stone can wirelessly charge the handset and serve as an alarm clock, a mood lamp, etc.
The SKY IM-100 is 7.8 mm thick and weighs 130g, thus easing one-handed operation on the device. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 processor.
It also comes with Qualcomm's latest audio codec chip, the WCD9326, which supports Qualcomm's APT-X codec and allows for quality sound on Bluetooth earphones and speakers.
The IM-100 features a full high-definition LCD screen with a 95% color gamut.
