GMV 2016 Came to an End with Export Consultations Worth $728 Million

Global Mobile Vision 2016 (the “GMV 2016”), the Asia’s representative mobile convergence ICT Expo scheduled for three days during the period between October 6 and 8, came to a successful end on October 8 with brilliant achievement of having export consultations worth $728 million.

The latest event participated by 13,121 visitors at home and abroad, 330 domestic firms engaging in a comprehensive range of IT businesses ranging from Internet of Things, Big Data, cyber security, telecommunications, FinTech, and wearables and over 300 foreign investors and buyers from 45 different countries, including Sprint, NEC, Smart City Project owners from Hungary and Uzbekistan has marked the largest of its kind. In particular, 1,963 bespoke export consultations between domestic firms and foreign buyers have led to achieving potential transactions worth $728 million and practical on-the-spot signing spree worth $118 million, including MOUs and exports agreements worth $1 million and $3.3 million, respectively.

Under the theme of ‘Mobile, IT’s Our Life’, the GMV Conference that attracting keen attention from investors and industry following last year featured iconic speeches by Amol Mitra, Vice President of Products and Channel in HPE Aruba and Choi Du-hwan, CEO of POSCO ICT, and debates and discussions among experts and specialists from various sectors in ICT industry, attracting positive reviews and responses from visitors and industry watchers. In addition, ‘Entry strategies among start-ups in different continents’ and the ‘IR pitching session among domestic start-ups’, which was held as part of the Creative Startup Korea (the “CSK”) attracted special attentions by providing opportunities of direct communications between prestigious overseas venture capitalists/accelerators and domestic start-ups.

The international exhibitions dedicated to ICT led by relevant associations, including the Federation of Korea Mobile Internet Business Association, Telecommunications Technology Association, and Korea Software Industry Association were participated by 227 businesses, including some 60 start-ups and presented positive changes through mobility and new discoveries of economic values. The exhibitions showcased a wide variety of items, including corporate platforms and solutions that have been more concrete with expanded application scope compared to those of last year along with consumer applications that can be usefully utilized in everyday life, featuring divergence and diversification of exhibition items. In addition, a number of ICT-exclusive media in countries that are likely to become future potential clients for domestic tech firms, including China, Japan and Vietnam have been invited to promote mutual exchanges while rewarding excellence presented by distinguished firms.

Kim Jae-hong, the CEO of KOTRA said in an interview, “The latest GMV has reaffirmed the possibility of our iconic small and medium ICT firms making entries into global markets by presenting exemplary cases of creating the sharing economy with new business models” added “We will sustain our effort to develop the GMV into a world class Expo to provide IT firms at home and abroad with invaluable opportunities of corporate exchanges and partnership”.

Meanwhile, ‘GMV 2016’ that marks the ninth anniversary this year has been co-hosted by KOTRA(CEO, Kim Jae-hong) and KINTEX(CEO, Lim Chang-yeol) and led by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and has featured a variety of colorful and exciting events, including global conferences, ICT international exhibitions based on mobile convergence, start-ups conferences and IRs.
