A survey of enterprises conducted by Broad Group in conjunction with the forthcoming Datacloud Asia forum which takes place in Singapore February 23rd, reveals that the south east Asia region retains a strong pull for new deployment by enterprise IT, led by Singapore, but a much broader plan exists to roll out infrastructure in most countries.

Driving deployment of IT includes a mix of planning for disaster recovery, cloud services and in some cases completely new estate requirements as enterprises arrive in the region. Interest comes from companies including webscales in the US and China and other MNCs regionally and internationally including Europe.

Outside of Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China featured as key locations. Malaysia has the advantage of having established data center parks in Iskandar in the south of the country, and just across the straits from Singapore. Data center investment is regarded as an Entry Point Project under the economic transformation programme.

Indonesia’s domestic market is attractive to international firms and mobile operators, and with a smaller base of data centers, there is room for additional expansion as new customers emerge.

“The sample survey reflects the scale of infrastructure plans in Asia,” commented Philip Low of BroadGroup. “It is interesting to note that enterprises may be starting to take a more pragmatic approach to China despite the Great Firewall issues. As Asia’s largest economy anyone buying or selling services and products needs to be present in the market, and that includes the support of IT estate.”

BroadGroup will host the premier networking and deal-making conference Datacloud Asia in Singapore 23 February, with more than 300 attendees from 20 countries.
