As GM Korea Co. has once again temporarily halted the production of the all-new Chevrolet Cruze compact car owing to quality problems, consumers who have placed preorders are feeling uneasy.

Production of the all-new Chevrolet Cruze, which was released in January, was suspended twice in February alone. the South Korean unit of U.S. carmaker General Motors Co had initially planned to deliver the sedans to the consumers late February.

On Feb. 28, the automaker said it will postpone Chevrolet Cruze deliveries to March to make sure that its latest products are "flawless.”

GM Korea began taking preorders for the new Cruze in mid January and received more than 2,000 pre-orders until early February. However, the carmaker had to halt production due to parts supply problems.

This time, airbags manufactured by Japan’s Takata seem to have caused the recent suspension of local production. Faulty Takata air bags have led to a global recall of some 10 million cars so far.

Up until now, not a single all-new Chevrolet Cruze compact car has been handed over to a customer. GM Korea is inspecting not only the airbag problem but also the entire quality of the car all over again. Thus, industry watchers and consumers say the possibility of further delivery delays cannot be ruled out.
