Samsung Electronics is now the 16th biggest company in the world in terms of market capitalization, a huge jump from the 39th a year ago.
SK Hynix Inc. and Hyundai Motor Co., the second and third largest by market cap in the domestic market, finished 440th and 496th respectively in global market capitalization.
Samsung's combined market cap reached USD 241 billion as of March 7, up 23 notches from a year earlier, according to the data compiled by Korea Exchange. Samsung Electronics’ market cap ballooned 64.8% from 168.88 trillion won to 278.76 trillion won in a single year.
Alphabet (or Google) and Facebook were placed 2nd and 6th in terms of market cap and finished 8th and 7th in terms of growth in market cap.
By country, the US came out on top with 55 American companies on the top 100 list, followed by China (11), the UK (5) and Japan (4).
