SK Hynix has jumped into the fray to acquire a stake in the semiconductor division of Toshiba. According to industry sources, a consortium led by S. Korea's SK Hynix submitted a preliminary bid to take over Toshiba's memory chip business.
The SK Hynix-led consortium, formed by partering with Japanese financial institutions, has reportedly offered to pay more than 10 trillion won for a majority stake in Toshiba's memory chip business.
SK Hynix had initially submitted a 2-3- trillion won bid to acquire a stake in the world’s second-largest Nand chipmaker's memory chip business.
SK Hynix said, "We cannot confirm anything regarding the Toshiba chip business, including whether we submitted a bid or not."
