Portland, Oregon, April 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE/KOREA IT TIMES) -- Exterro® Inc., the preferred provider of software specifically designed for in-house legal and IT teams at Global 2000 and AmLaw 200 organizations, is proud to share how Juniper Networks is leveraging technology to save $7 million year-over-year on e-discovery costs. Over the last three years, Juniper has moved most of their e-discovery in-house, which has equipped their e-discovery team with a cloud based e-discovery and forensic environment that spans across the entire EDRM. In addition, some of these savings can be attributed to a defensible deletion program that reduced legacy data volume from 22 petabytes to 14 terabytes.

Something that sets the Juniper team apart is that rather than reporting to the legal department, they instead report to information security and the Chief Information Security Officer, so they operate more like an internal consultancy providing services to the company. Christopher Sitter, Head of Global E-Discovery & Digital Forensics at Juniper Networks explains, “Our team is the central hub for all investigations, litigation, and federal inquiries for the entire company. So, besides standard e-discovery related to litigation, we also can have HR investigations or compliance investigations -- from someone claiming a little too much on their expense reports to potential FCPA violations where a sales individual is being accused of bribing a foreign official.” While servicing all these business units, Juniper’s e-discovery team still has managed to greatly reduce e-discovery costs. Chris credits bringing more of the e-discovery process in-house and automating costly outsourced e-discovery tasks as two of the key reasons for these cost reductions.

Chris says, by utilizing Exterro Legal Hold and In Place Preservation, they are, “set up so that the moment we receive any indication of activity, we can do published or unpublished holds through the Exterro system, and the greatest benefit of this is the automation. It powers us to start preserving data within a matter of seconds of receiving that email.”

“At Exterro, we fundamentally believe that when you view e-discovery as a business process, you gain more control into the entire process. Juniper Networks has shown that bringing e-discovery in-house can lead to significant cost savings and a more defensible process. They are a great example of how to succeed with a well thought out e-discovery plan,” says Bill Piwonka, Exterro CMO.
